Our take

Amplitude is the reference implementation of product analytics — behavioral cohorts, funnel analysis, and retention curves are executed with more depth than any Mixpanel or Segment competitor. Amplitude AI now generates charts from natural language questions ('show me retention for users who completed onboarding vs. those who didn't') without SQL knowledge. The Experiment product bundles A/B testing into the analytics workflow rather than requiring a separate tool. The cost cliff is real: Plus at $49/month for 1,000 MTUs is fine for early-stage products, but Growth and Enterprise pricing at meaningful MTU volumes (50K+) requires negotiation and multi-year commitments. Segment's CDP functionality and Google Analytics 4 eat into Amplitude's free-tier use cases, but for teams that need behavioral depth and product experimentation, Amplitude remains the standard.
