Zoom's 40-minute free tier limit is the single most consequential product decision in business software history — it trained an entire generation of remote workers to keep one eye on the clock. The irony is that Zoom's paid plans are genuinely excellent: AI Companion is included at no extra cost (a $15/mo add-on at most competitors), the Business plan's 300-participant cap covers all but the largest all-hands, and Zoom Phone bundles a cloud PBX at Business Plus.
