BambooHR is the HR tool that employees actually like using — its self-service interface for time off requests, document access, and org chart navigation is cleaner than any other platform in this category. For HR teams managing 10-200 people, BambooHR handles the non-payroll HR work better than Gusto or Rippling: performance reviews, employee NPS surveys, onboarding task checklists, e-signature workflows, and a searchable employee directory that works intuitively on mobile. The payroll gap is the critical caveat: BambooHR's native US payroll is an add-on module that still isn't as robust as Gusto or ADP for compliance-heavy scenarios. For teams already using Gusto for payroll, BambooHR integrates cleanly and splits the HR and payroll problems cleanly by tool. For teams wanting a single platform, the integrated Gusto Plus plan at $80 + $12/employee is the more coherent choice.

Product roadmap

BambooHR was acquired by PeopleStrong in 2023, signalling international expansion beyond the US. Its AI capabilities (predictive turnover scoring, pay equity analysis, benefits recommendation engine) have matured meaningfully since then. The talent intelligence features that identify flight risks and inform compensation decisions are the highest-value additions for teams managing retention.
