LaunchDarkly is the enterprise feature flag standard, used by thousands of engineering teams for safe deployments, A/B tests, and targeted rollouts. The core value: deploy code continuously without risking incidents, because every new feature is wrapped in a flag that can be toggled off in seconds. The targeting engine handles complex rules — 'show Feature X to users in the US on Pro plans who signed up after March 1' — evaluated at the edge with sub-millisecond latency. The approvals workflow prevents accidental flag changes in production, which matters at scale. Pro at $16/seat is the right entry tier; the Starter free tier is limited to 5 flags and 1,000 MAUs. The competition from Split.io is real — Split's experimentation capabilities are more advanced for teams prioritizing A/B testing as a core workflow. LaunchDarkly's strength is breadth of the SDK ecosystem (50+ language/framework SDKs) and enterprise trust built over a decade.

Product roadmap

LaunchDarkly is building out its experimentation platform (to compete directly with Split's stats engine), expanding AI/ML feature flag capabilities for model rollouts, and deepening DevOps integrations. The acquisition of Catamorphic brought observability features. Deployment safety as AI systems go to production is a growing use case.
