Our take
Datadog is the Ferrari of observability — extraordinary depth and capability, expensive to run, and easy to overspend on. The per-host pricing model scales predictably for infrastructure monitoring but becomes painful when you stack APM, logs, security, and synthetics additively. A 50-host production environment with APM enabled costs $2,300+/month before log ingestion. The breadth is unmatched — no other platform covers infra, APM, logs, security, RUM, and synthetics in a single coherent UI at Datadog's depth.
Product roadmap
Datadog is pushing into AI observability (LLM monitoring, AI agent tracing) and expanding its security surface with Cloud SIEM. Bits AI is their LLM assistant for natural-language query across all telemetry data.
Who is Datadog for?
